Lucy, a Redtail Hawk

Lucy, a Redtail Hawk

24" x 24" oil on gallery wrapped canvas (2" depth), 2010 - $1,150.00

This painting is on exhibit at the Virginia State Senate until mid April. It may be purchased and depart from this show at any time.

I found Lucy along side of the road near Goose Creek. After watching her for some time it was obvious she was going to need help. I phoned Blue Ridge Wildlife Rescue and they showed up within the hour. Lucy went back to their station for rehabilitation and a week later she was ready to be released back to her territory. I was lucky enough to get this shot as she flew off. I still see her since I live close to where she was released. One afternoon she brought her boyfriend to my backyard tree top and made a huge racket.

Hawks get hit often since they pick at food along the road. Please don't throw food out your window! It is also helpful to move dead animals off the road. If you hit a hawk, do call a local rescue for help. Lucy looked to be in very bad shape; appeared to have broken a wing. But after a vet check and a few days rest it was obvious she would be relased.
